Apart
from just making you feel great, massage is a wonderful addition to your
approach to golf. Whether you're swinging woods or long irons for distance, or
looking to finesse a pitch or chip, you depend on your muscles to execute the
shot.
Massage will help relax and tone muscles, increase flexibility, rejuvenate and increase muscle sensory mechanisms, as well as provide you with better "touch and feel". All of this adds up to better balance and body awareness, key factors in playing good golf.
Just as you work with your golf professional to improve your technique, why not complement this with regular massage to fine-tune your body to execute that well-honed swing - and keep you swinging. After all,
“The best equipment you can bring to the tee is a relaxed body, alert and ready to go.”

|
Increased blood and lymph circulation Several massage strokes increase the movement of blood and lymph. |
Massage is beneficial for lots of reasons, but the most important one is circulation. If a muscle is stiff because of a long day on the course, getting oxygenated blood to the area improves the condition rapidly. |
|
Muscle relaxation Massage can help relax muscles and return them to normal health and physical condition. |
With your golf muscles relaxed they will function efficiently, reducing the risk of "strain," and producing consistently better shots. |
|
Pain relief Massage can relieve pain, due to its encouragement of endorphin release, especially if it is caused by muscle tension. |
Anytime you have pain, you're not maximizing your golf swing. Instead you're making a modified swing that guards against the pain, which of course makes a big difference when you're trying to hit the ball. When you have an injury, or experience pain, those muscles shut down and other muscles kick in to help the injured ones. It's hard to swing well if you have aches and pains. |

Adhesion removal and Fibrosis alleviation An adhesion exists when two tissues are joined by scar tissue following an injury or disease. Fibrosis is formation of excessive or abnormal scar tissue after an injury. Massage, especially deep effleurage, petrissage and friction, may be effective in breaking down such adhesions and relieve this condition. |
The repetitive motion of a golf swing, if done incorrectly, can cause injuries in many parts of the body, backs, knees, elbows, shoulders, and wrists. |
|
Stress reduction Many forms of massage promote general relaxation and reduction of physical, emotional and mental stress. |
When you are stressed, you're often unconsciously clenching your shoulders and arms. This is counterproductive to the normal motion of the joint and tight muscles severely restrict your golf swing. Because massage reduces anxiety and gives the sense of well-being, this allows the golfer to stay relaxed and swing more fluidly. Being relaxed and feeling good allows one to play better. |
|
Fatigue reduction Massage has been used to help relieve the fatigue associated with sports activities. |
Post-round massage increases circulation in the muscle tissues, helping to prevent build-up of harmful "fatigue" products resulting from strenuous exercise and competition. |
|
Massage includes movement therapy (joint mobilization) and hydrotherapy to the major muscles crossing each joint of the body: Stretching is one of the best ways to improve flexibility, promoting elasticity to various muscle groups with almost immediate results. |
A golfer will often notice increased flexibility after only one or two sessions. If you have limited flexibility, it may help you and your game move in the right direction. |
LEAGUE
PLAY & TOURNAMENTS
During tournaments, golfers push themselves to their limits, physically
and mentally. Massage is a great tool to both prepare for, and recover from the
stresses of competition.
PRE-EVENT
Pre-event massage is given within a few hours preceding an event to improve
performance and help decrease injuries. It is normally shorter (10-20 minutes)
than a regular conditioning massage, and focuses on warming-up the major muscles
to be used, and getting you in a good mental state for your tournament.
POST-EVENT
Post-event massage is given after a tournament and is mainly concerned with
recovery. Recovery after competition involves not only tissue normalization and
repair, but also general relaxation and mental calming. *On-site Seated Massage
is ideal for these times.
